New Tools Help Put Data Into Context

Kidsdata.org offers literally millions of data points. As part of our ongoing efforts to give meaning to all those statistics, kidsdata.org recently added two sections to the website that put the data into context and offer options for taking action on issues:

  • Policy Implications: Summaries of evidence-based policy options for addressing issues

  • Research & Links: Key websites, additional research, and reports related to each topic

Policy Implications

These topic-specific narratives describe promising policy and program ideas, according to research and subject experts, and emphasize what children need to flourish in any particular area.

How to Find the Policy Implications Section:
This section is available by clicking on the "Learn More About This Topic" link on topic pages. You also can find these narratives by clicking the icon on any topic page or scrolling down below any chart or graph.

Research & Links

The expanded Research & Links section is a gateway for in-depth learning about the topics on kidsdata.org. This section includes key websites, research articles, and seminal reports. There’s also a section for county-level and regional reports related to children and families; if your organization produces such reports, contact us about adding them to kidsdata.org.

The Research & Links section can be helpful in highlighting key issues that are not apparent from the data, such as information about emerging concerns or specific subgroups of the population for which little data exist.

How to Find the Research & Links Section:
The Research & Links section is available for every topic on kidsdata.org, and can be found below any chart or graph on a topic page, or by clicking the Research & Links tab in the nav bar of any page.
